Korn Requiem

As a huge fan of Korn from my high school days. Receiving an e-mail that Universal Music Canada wanted us to help them create some buzz around the release of Korn’s new album Reqiuem was amazing.

This was an exciting one for me personally, even though I’m not the avid follower of the band I once was, I do still enjoy the classic Korn tracks. With limited time to work with as the album was being released February 4th, Danny got to work on how to make this large scale logo of the band name. The layout and programming had to be very precise so each piece came together to create the perfect sculpture. At Universal’s request they wanted some behind the scenes footage of how the sculpture process is done. This meant multiple video clips, time lapse footage and more time in the freezer. Danny used black sand for the border of the logo and snow fill to create the metal band’s logo. The behind the scene footage is great to share as a lot of people do not understand the amount of work that goes into each piece of work.

Then came the set up on Queen Street, right in front of Kops Records. Kops has been a Toronto staple for vinyl since the 70’s and with the resurgence of vinyl in recent years Kops has been thriving and now boasts 3 locations. Danny and I arrived on Queen street for the set up and surprisingly found parking right out front. Made unloading the sculpture pieces that much easier. Using a cup and the snow bank and our tripod (forgot it in the freezer) we set up for the time-lapse of the set up. First we discussed with the shop owner where they wanted it placed that it wouldn’t be a risk of damaging their front window. Then the most time consuming part of the set up getting the base level on some extremely uneven sidewalk. After using some shims and snow the level base was achieved. As the six pieces were assembled, we received lots of comments by Korn fans walking down Queen. When we were all done everyone at Kops was extremely happy with the display. The weather was also very cooperative as the sculpture stood for over a week outside their shop. This despite concerns by Kops that a potentially intoxicated bar goer would break it the first night. All in all it was a great set up and they definitely got their money’s worth with a week plus of showing.

We created a great clip of our own for the behind the scenes of the whole process which you can find on our Tik Tok and Instagram pages and our YouTube channel. The icing on the cake was the piece put together by Universal Music and posted to all of Korn’s social media pages and 2.5 Million Instagram followers!! This whole process really took me back to my high school rocker days and was a lot of fun to be a part of. Look forward to working with Universal Music and more projects with bands I love!
