Little Italy’s 12 Days of Christmas: A Spectacular Ice Sculpture Celebration

Following our large-scale Weston Village WinterFest, we teamed up once again with Hypitch for Little Italy’s 12 Days of Christmas event. With a more flexible timeline, our team delivered 10 unique ice sculptures over 10 days along College St., celebrating diverse cultures and festive traditions in Toronto.

Project Overview & Planning

Although the project began on the same day as Weston Village WinterFest, the extended schedule allowed us to divide and conquer. We prepared for multiple days of sculpture creation and delivery, ensuring each piece was crafted to perfection before its installation.

Innovative Sculptures & Techniques

Our creative process involved a mix of hand carving, CNC carving, and color incorporation to bring each design to life. Every sculpture was mounted on a base featuring the “Little Italy” street sign alongside a unique message reflecting various cultural greetings.

Daily Highlights

Day 1: A hand-carved wreath with “Happy Holidays” kicked off the event, although warmer weather shortened its display time.

Day 2: A beautifully hand-carved Christmas tree with “Buon Natale” enjoyed a longer lifespan thanks to cooler temperatures.

Day 3: A large snowflake with “Feliz Natal” was installed outside Away Cafe.

Day 4: A charming hand-carved Nutcracker appeared outside Grace’s Meats.

Day 5: Despite uneven ground challenges, our hand-carved Santa with “Joyeux Noel” was expertly leveled using a trusty level and homemade shims.

Day 6: Frozen’s very own Olaf was set up near a school, captivating local kids with details like felt eyes, an orange nose, and stick arms.

Day 7: A stunning ice rendition of a Filipino Lantern with “Maligayang Bakasyon” added cultural flair.

Day 8: An angelic, hard-carved angel greeted passersby on a sunny day.

Day 9: A hand-carved Rudolph, featuring Santa’s favorite reindeer, was installed outside Snakes and Lattes.

Day 10: A Menorah complete with candle lights was set up during a gentle snowfall, perfectly coinciding with the fourth day of Hanukkah.

Smooth Logistics & Community Engagement

Hypitch’s exceptional organization—marking precise installation spots on College St.—simplified our delivery schedule. This allowed us to interact with locals, gather real-time feedback, and ensure each sculpture was perfectly placed, making the event a true community celebration.

In Conclusion

Little Italy’s 12 Days of Christmas was a festive showcase of artistic talent, cultural diversity, and community spirit. Our collaboration with Hypitch and the warm reception from local residents made this project a memorable success.
