Following our large event for Weston Village we worked with Hypitch again for Little Italy’s 12 days of Christmas! This was a little easier on the preparation side as we had multiple days to complete the sculptures and deliveries.
It did however start on the same day as our Weston Village Winterfest! Divide and conquer for the first day at least and then back to the freezer to keep going on the balance of Little Italy’s order.
We created 10 sculptures total for them and delivered one per day along College St. over the course of 10 days. Each design sat on a base with the “Little Italy” street sign as well as a different saying for each. Each saying depicted a different culture we had to do a variety of different elements throughout the 10 sculptures. Hand carved, CNC carved, colour incorporation but the team worked together to get this job done. The organization by Hypitch was once again a huge help, simplifying our delivery schedule with all the details covered including markings on the sidewalk where each sculpture was to be placed.
Day 1 we created a hand carved wreath with Happy Holidays written underneath. The weather was a little warmer that day so it didn’t last as long as the others.Day 2 was a hand carved Christmas tree with Buon Natale. After this set up we had a nice stretch of cool weather so the rest of the sculptures lasted up to a week outside! Day 3 was a large snowflake with Feliz Natal which sat outside Away Cafe. Day 4 our hand carved Nutcracker appeared outside Grace’s Meats! Day 5 our hand carved Santa shouting Joyeux Noel was set up, this one provided a bit of a challenge. The ground where it was to be placed was not level. Using our trusty level and some home made shims Santa stood proudly on College St. Day 6 Frozen’s very own Olaf was set up just down the street from a school. A few of the kids had lots of questions while we set up and it was fun explaining details to them. How we use water as “glue” to hold the pieces together. Olaf was completed with felt eyes, orange nose and sticks for his arms and hair. Day 7 we set up a beautiful ice version of Phillipino Lantern with Maligayang Bakasyon. Day 8 the sun was shining as we set up an angelic hard carved angel, to the delight of locals walking by. Day 9 Santa called on his favourite reindeer as we set up our hand carved Rudolph outside Snakes and Lattes on College! And finally on Day 10 we had a beautiful snowfall while setting up our Menorah which fell on the fourth day of Hanukkah and was complete with lights for each candle. This was all in all and a great experience as we spoke with locals while setting up each sculpture. It was also great to hear the feedback in person as we are often out of the picture once guests arrive when we are setting up. Look forward to working with Hypitch again in the future and we are counting down until the next 12 days of Christmas!
